Yenepoya University traces its origin to the Yenepoya Dental College, established in 1992 to meet the growing demand for quality health-professional education. Over time, additional schools and colleges were added. In 2008, the Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, granted the institution Deemed-to-be University status under Section 3(A) of the UGC Act, 1956.
